Synopsis:
Alarmed by the more than 30,000 people who commit suicide in Japan each year - the greatest number among developed nations in the world, Professor Suzuki Seiji, a neuroscientist at New Boston University, researches treatments to prevent suicides driven by a pure desire to save lives. Meanwhile, Yuda Kazumichi, the youngest Chief Cabinet Secretary in the country's history, has been taking tranquilizers because of his many anxieties.
Troubled by the government's attempt to cover up information on the disappearance of a maritime Self Defence Force submarine at sea, Yuda is eventually consumed by thoughts of suicide. His wife, Eriko, is concerned and discusses his condition with her ex-husband, Suzuki. The two men had been schoolmates during their university days and meet again after 20 years.
Suzuki uses an unauthorized treatment method and succeeds in saving Yuda. However, now that Yuda has been relieved of his fear and anxiety through the treatment, his personality changes. He plots a coup d'etat with Kaburagi Kota, a lieutenant commander of Maritime Self Defense Force, plunging Japan into chaos...
